Chinese American writers, Huang Zongzhi and Zhu Xuemei, have written a popular novel entitled The Ivy League Dream, which depicts the learning experience of three Chinese young men in America. The successful completion of the novel is attributed to the writers' years of effort in observing the Chinese immigrants' family education. Based on their observation, they began to understand and reflect on the Chinese family educational mode. The Chinese parents are so anxious about their children's education to the extent of not knowing what is really good for their children. They blindly follow the trend in overseas and drive their children to fulfill the Ivy League dream. Such practice shows that the Chinese parents feel extremely confused about family education, inducing great concern for the writers. Although the writers do not point out the future direction of Chinese family education, they critically question the concept of traditional family education by telling the stories of three Chinese immigrants' families. In so doing, the writers intend to awaken the Chinese parents to reconsider the purpose of education and the value of life as well as to rediscover an effective approach to family education.
